Earth Day 2026: Teaching the Next Generation About Bees at Ortega Methodist

This Earth Day was extra special — I had the privilege of bringing the world of bees to a wonderful group of young learners at Ortega Methodist Preschool in Jacksonville, Florida.
Sharing the Wonder
The children were absolutely captivated as I showed them a real honeycomb frame up close. Their eyes widened with curiosity as they saw the hexagonal cells, learned about the queen, and discovered how busy worker bees keep the hive running. One little one in a green shirt couldn’t resist reaching out to touch the golden comb!
Why It Matters
Reaching young children early is about planting seeds — sparking a respect for pollinators before skepticism can take root. In a world where bee populations face challenges, teaching the next generation to care about these tiny engineers is more important than ever.
Thank You
Huge thanks to Ortega Methodist for having me. These kids are the future stewards of our environment, and if even one of them grows up to become a beekeeper or a passionate advocate for pollinators, the visit will have been worth it.
See you next time in the garden!
